Project goal
The city of Medellín, Colombia, hosts one of the world’s most famous Christmaslight displays known as ElAlumbradoNavideño(The Lighting of Medellín). It is thecity’s largest tourist attraction, visited by millions every year. For the 2024 edition,public utilities company EPM aimed to push the boundaries of festive lighting bycreating a record-breaking, smart LED installation along the Medellín River path.

Our approach
To bring this ambitious vision to life, 800,000 Twinkly smart LEDs were installed on acolossal vertical structure measuring 800 meters in length and 10 meters in height(2,625 x 33 feet). Powered by 667 controllers, the entire setup was seamlesslymapped into one LED wall using the Twinkly App and suspended in the middle of theriver. The ultra-vibrant, animated screen showcased a magical world of custom-designed imagery on an unprecedented scale.
The results
The Medellín Christmas light display set a new milestone as the largest Twinklypowered LED installation to date. It captivated millions of locals and tourists,reinforcing Medellín’s reputation as one of the world’s premier holiday lightdestinations. We are honored to have contributed to such an iconic and cherishedevent.

Group Type
The installation was managed as one grand object thanks to Twinkly's in-app grouping functionality: Join.
Mapping Type
Due to the structures incredible size, it was mapped using the Vertical mapping feature, scanning large groups of LEDs at a time to then let the cloud reconstruct a faithful 2D-layout.
Content Upload
Once mapped, the impressive video content was uploaded and played on the LED surface using Twinkly WebApp.
Remote Control
Thanks to the cloud connectivity the client was able to manage the display's schedule and program from anywhere, even from a different city.
